(Spor) Shin guards or shin pads are pieces of equipment used in hockey and football (soccer). They are used for protecition to the player's shins from balls, game equipment and other players. They are usually secured on using velcro straps. They have been made compulsory for most school, club and professional teams in order to reduce injuries
