the result of a mathematical integration; F(x) is the integral of f(x) if dF/dx = f(x)
Something that is an integral part of something is an essential part of that thing. Rituals and festivals form an integral part of every human society = basic, fundamental. Fundamental concept of calculus related to areas and other quantities modeled by functions. A definite integral gives the area between the graph of a function and the horizontal axis between vertical lines at the endpoints of an interval. It also calculates the net change in a system over an interval, thus leading to formulas for the work done by a varying force or the distance traveled by an object moving at varying speeds. When only the function is given, with no interval, it is known as an indefinite integral. The process of solving either a definite or an indefinite integral is called integration. According to the fundamental theorem of calculus, a definite integral can be calculated by using its antiderivative (a function whose rate of change, or derivative, equals the function being integrated). Integrals extend to higher dimensions through multiple integrals. See also line integral; surface integral. integral calculus integral equation integral transform line integral multiple integral surface integral
Of, pertaining to, or being, a whole number or undivided quantity; not fractional

integral calculus
The study of integration and its uses, such as in finding volumes, areas, and solutions of differential equations. Branch of calculus concerned with the theory and applications of integrals. While differential calculus focuses on rates of change, such as slopes of tangent lines and velocities, integral calculus deals with total size or value, such as lengths, areas, and volumes. The two branches are connected by the fundamental theorem of calculus, which shows how a definite integral is calculated by using its antiderivative (a function whose rate of change, or derivative, equals the function being integrated). For example, integrating a velocity function yields a distance function, which enables the distance traveled by an object over an interval of time to be calculated. As a result, much of integral calculus deals with the derivation of formulas for finding antiderivatives. The great utility of the subject emanates from its use in solving differential equations

(Otomotiv) Any device or system that's designed for and installed in a car by the manufacturer, rather than being added to a finished vehicle at a later date
integral part
essential section or piece that completes a whole
integral transform
In mathematics, a function that results when a given function is multiplied by a so-called kernel function, and the product is integrated (see integration) between suitable limits. Its value lies in its ability to simplify intractable differential equations (subject to particular boundary conditions) by transforming the derivatives and boundary conditions into terms of an algebraic equation that may easily be solved. The solution yielded must be converted to the final solution using an inverse transformation. Several integral transforms are named for the mathematicians who introduced them (Fourier transform, Laplace transform)
indefinite integral
A function whose derivative is a given function; an antiderivative
indefinite integral
A function whose derivative is a given function. Also called antiderivative
indefinite integral
the set of functions F(x) + C, where C is any real number, such that F(x) is the integral of f(x)
Lebesgue integral
An integral which has more general application than that of the Riemann integral, because it allows the region of integration to be partitioned into not just intervals but any {{|}}s for which the function to be integrated has a sufficiently narrow range. (Formal definitions can be found at )

Compute the Lebesgue integral of f over E.

integrals
plural of integral
line integral
In mathematics, the integral of a function of several variables defined on a line or curve that has been expressed in terms of arc length (see length of a curve). An ordinary definite integral is defined over a line segment, whereas a line integral may use a more general path, such as a parabola or a circle. Line integrals are used extensively in the theory of functions of a complex variable
multiple integral
In calculus, the integral of a function of more than one variable. As the integral of a function of one variable over an interval results in an area, the double integral of a function of two variables calculated over a region results in a volume. Functions of three variables have triple integrals, and so on. Like the single integral, such constructions are useful in calculating the net change in a function that results from changes in its input values
surface integral
In calculus, the integral of a function of several variables calculated over a surface. For functions of a single variable, definite integrals are calculated over intervals on the x-axis and result in areas. For functions of two variables, the simplest double integrals are calculated over rectangular regions and result in volumes. More generally, an integral calculated over a plane or curved surface results in a surface integral representing a volume, though it also has many nongeometric applications
