the sport of shooting at clay objects that have been thrown into the air British Equivalent: clay pigeon shooting (skeet invented word, intended as an "old" form of shoot; perhaps influenced by skjota ). Shooting sport using moving targets. Marksmen use shotguns to shoot at clay targets (pigeons) hurled into the air by spring devices called traps.
