It was laid out as a town by Mormons in 1852 and developed as a trade centre chiefly for the surrounding citrus groves and vineyards. Other industries, including aerospace, electronics, and steel, are now the economic mainstays. It is part of the San Bernardino-Riverside-Ontario metropolitan complex
