A bazooka is a long, tube-shaped gun that is held on the shoulder and fires rockets. a long light gun that rests on your shoulder and is used for shooting at tanks (bazooka type of simple musical instrument (1900-2000), from bazoo similar instrument (19-20 centuries), probably from its sound). Shoulder-type rocket launcher adopted by the U.S. Army in World War II. It consisted of a smoothbore steel tube, originally about 5 ft (1.5 m) long, open at both ends and equipped with a hand grip, shoulder rest, trigger mechanism, and sights. Officially named the M9A1 Rocket Launcher, it was called bazooka after the crude horn of that name used by a popular radio comedian. It was developed chiefly for attacking tanks and fortified positions at short range. The U.S. Army abandoned it during the Vietnam War in favour of lighter-weight antitank weapons
