adiabatic process
In thermodynamics, an adiabatic process or an isocaloric process is a thermodynamic process in which no heat is transferred to or from the working fluid. The term "adiabatic" literally means impassable, coming from the Greek roots ἀ- ("not"), διὰ- ("through"), and βαῖνειν ("to pass"); this etymology corresponds here to an absence of heat transfer. Conversely, a process that involves heat transfer (addition or loss of heat to the surroundings) is generally called diabatic. Although the terms adiabatic and isocaloric can often be interchanged, adiabatic processes may be considered a subset of isocaloric processes; the remaining complement subset of isocaloric processes being processes where net heat transfer does not diverge regionally such as in an idealized case with mediums of infinite thermal conductivity or non-existent thermal capacity
A thermodynamic change of state of a system such that no heat or mass is transferred across the boundaries of the system In an adiabatic process, expansion always results in cooling, and compression in warming
A thermodynamic change of state in a system in which there is no transfer of heat or mass across the boundaries of the system In an adiabatic process, compression always results in warming, expansion in cooling Compare to diabatic process
A thermodynamic change of state of a system in which there is no transfer of heat or mass across the boundaries of the system In an adiabatic process, compression always results in warming, expansion in cooling In meteorology the adiabatic process often is also taken to be a reversible process For many purposes, changes of state in the free atmosphere over periods of two days or less are assumed to be adiabatic
process in which a sample of gas or a parcel of air undergoes a change of state without the addition or withdrawal of heat (Temperature)
The change of temperature of air without transferring heat In an adiabatic process, compression results in warming, and expansion results in cooling
A change involving no gain or loss of heat
A process that occurs without a given system (such as a parcel of air) exchanging energy with its surroundings In such a process, expansion always results in cooling and compression always results in warming
the process where a parcel of air changes state without the addition or removal of heat energy
A process in which no heat in put into or released from a system to its environment
is a process during which there is no heat transfer The word adiabatic comes from the Greek word adiabatos, which means not to be passed is a process during which there is no heat transfer The word adiabatic comes from the Greek word adiabatos, which means not to be passed
a process which occurs with no exchange of heat between a system and its environment
a process in which the system does not exchange heat with the surroundings; thus q=0
A thermodynamic change of state in a system in which there is no transfer of heat or mass across the boundaries of the system In this process, compression will result in warming and expansion will result in cooling
A thermal process in which no heat is added to or removed from a system
The change of temperature of air without transferring heat In an adiabatic process compression results in warming, and expansion results in cooling
A process that involves no heat transfer across the system boundary
(thermodynamics) any process that occurs without gain or loss of heat
