(Mühendislik) Deep drawing is a compression-tension metal forming process in which a sheet metal blank is radially drawn into a forming die by the mechanical action of a punch. It is thus a shape transformation process with material retention. The flange region (sheet metal in the die shoulder area) experiences a radial drawing stress and a tangential compressive stress due to the material retention property. These compressive stresses (hoop stresses) result in flange wrinkles (wrinkles of the first order). Wrinkles can be prevented by using a blank holder, the function of which is to facilitate controlled material flow into the die radius
The fabrication process of flat rolled steel to make drawn parts The part is mechanically formed through or in a die The blank diameter is reduced; the blank contracts circumferentially as it is drawn radially inward (See Deep Drawing Applications)
The process of working metal blanks in dies on a press into shapes which are usually more or less cup-like in character
The process of cold working or drawing sheet or strip metal blanks by means of dies on a press into shames which are usually more or less cup-like in character involving considerable plastic deformation of the metal Deep-drawing quality sheet or strip steel, ordered or sold on the basis of suitability for deep-drawing
