    [ 'wulfs-"bAn ] (noun.) 1548. From wolf + bane, calque of Ancient Greek λυκοκτόνον (lukoktonon) from λύκος (lukos, “wolf”) + κτείνω (kteinō, “I kill”). Influenced by Latin lycoctonum.
