    Этимология

[ 'wäg, 'wog ] (noun.) circa 1929. Perhaps an abbreviation of golliwog. The claim that it is an acronym for Westernised Oriental gentleman is demonstrably false, as this etymology does not seem to occur before the 1960’s although the term had been in use for over a hundred years at that point.
