A segment of DNA that is part of the genome of an organism, and which is similar to a gene but does not code for a gene product
(Biyoloji) A defective segment of DNA that resembles a gene but cannot be transcribed
A sequence that closely resembles a known functional gene, at another locus within a genome, that is non-functional as a consequence of (usually several) mutations that prevent either its transcription or translation (or both) In general, pseudogenes result from either reverse transcription of a transcript of their "normal" paralog (in which case the pseudogene typically lacks introns and includes a poly(A) tail) or from recombination (in which case the pseudogene is typically a tandem duplication of its "normal" paralog) On occasion a pseudogene is functional as a consequence being "captured" by a non-paralogous gene - it is then known as a "functional pseudogene"
A sequence of DNA similar to a gene but nonfunctional; probably the remnant of a once-functional gene that accumulated mutations Source : Human Genome Project Information
A sequence of DNA similar to a gene but nonfunctional; probably the remnant of a once-functional gene that accumulated mutations
DNA sequence that resembles a homologue normal gene but seems to have no function
A sequence of DNA that is very similar to a normal gene but that has been altered slightly so it is not expressed Such genes were probably once functional but over time acquired one or more mutations that rendered them incapable of producing a protein product
