Определение meatfare в Английский Язык Английский Язык словарь
Used in the combination "Meatfare Sunday" by English-speaking members of the Christian Orthodox churches to indicate the Sunday eight days before the start of Lent, traditionally the last day on which meat may be eaten until Pascha (Easter). Although the word has been in long and widespread use its etymology is obscure, but it may be an attempt at an approximate translation of the equivalent Greek word "ΑÏ€οκριÎς" which can be translated to "departure from meat" and is a parallel to the word "carnival" in its original religious context
