closed-end fund: This number indicates how volatile, or jumpy, a fund is in comparison to an index A mutual fund consisting of stocks or bonds that is traded on a stock exchange like a stock You buy or sell it at a market price–not the value of the underlying stocks, as you do with a regular mutual fund Sometimes the funds trade for a deep discount to the value of the underlying stocks and you can pick up a bargain Of course, sometimes it trades at a discount because it is simply a bad fund with bad stocks
