neuropathy
Any disease of the peripheral nervous system
Disease of the nervous system Many people who have had diabetes for a while have nerve damage The three major forms of nerve damage are: peripheral neuropathy, autonomic neuropathy, and mononeuropathy The most common form is peripheral neuropathy, which mainly affects the feet and legs See also: Peripheral neuropathy; autonomic neuropathy; mononeuropathy
Any disease of the peripheral nerves, usually causing weakness and numbness In a mononeuropathy a single nerve is affected and the extent of the symptom depends upon the distribution of that nerve In a polyneuropathy many or all of the nerves are involved and the symptoms are most profound at the extremities of the limbs
pathological changes in the peripheral nervous system
– Disease or disorder of the peripheral nerves, often occurring as a result of damage to the nerves from injury or disease (such as diabetes) A neuropathy can affect just a single peripheral nerve, in which case it is called a mononeuropathy, or several nerves, which is known as a polyneuropathy
A functional disturbance or pathological change in the peripheral nervous system, sometimes limited to non-inflammatory lesions as opposed to neuritis
n Disease or disorder, especially a degenerative one, that affects the nervous system
A functional disturbance or pathological change in the peripheral nervous system, the most common kind of chronic symmetrical sensory polyneuropathy affecting first the nerves of the lower limbs and often affecting autonomic nerves, characteristic of diabetes mellitus
disease of the nervous system The three major forms in people with diabetes are peripheral neuropathy, autonomic neuropathy, and mononeuropathy The most common form is peripheral neuropathy, which affects mainly the legs and feet
any disease, inflamation, or abnormality of a nerve
Disease of nerves
Disease of the nerves
any pathology of the peripheral nerves
diabetic nerve damage
Disease of the peripheral nerves This is a common complication of long-standing diabetes mellitus, but may also be seen in association with rheumatic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or forms of vasculitis
An affection of the nervous system or of a nerve
Group of symptoms caused by abnormalities in sensory or motor nerves Symptoms include tingling and numbness in hands or feet, followed by gradually progressive muscular weakness The three major forms of nerve damage are: peripheral neuropathy, autonomic neuropathy, and mononeuropathy The most common form is peripheral neuropathy, which mainly affects the feet and legs
Disorder of the peripheral nervous system. It may be genetic or acquired, progress quickly or slowly, involve motor, sensory, and/or autonomic (see autonomic nervous system) nerves, and affect only certain nerves or all of them. It can cause pain or loss of sensation, weakness, paralysis, loss of reflexes, muscle atrophy, or, in autonomic neuropathies, disturbances of blood pressure, heart rate, or bladder and bowel control; impotence; and inability to focus the eyes. Some types damage the neuron itself, others the myelin sheath that insulates it. Examples include carpal tunnel syndrome, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, poliomyelitis, and shingles. Causes include diseases (e.g., diabetes mellitus, leprosy, syphilis), injury, toxins, and vitamin deficiency (e.g., beriberi). See also neuralgia; neuritis
