- Any alga of the taxon Chromista
- (Hayvan Bilim, Zooloji) A major taxon in the Kingdom Ptotoctista (also called Heterokonta). They are mostly photosynthetic algae but distinct from the rest of the algae. They have genetic material derived from four different ancestors (purple bacteria, cyanobacteria, red alga and green alga). Link to Chromista
