The cloth that hangs from the pulpit Its purpose is to signify by its colour which season of the Church year we are in If it is green we are in the Season after Epiphany, or in the Season after Pentecost (both of these are also sometimes called Ordinary Time ) If it is blue, we are in Advent (the four weeks before Christmas) If it is white or gold, we are in the Easter season (the fifty days between Easter Sunday and Pentecost Sunday), or in the season of Epiphany If it is purple, we are in Lent (the forty days before Easter )
