Definition of alamgir in English English dictionary
in full Azz al-Dn Alamgr II born June 6, 1699, Multan, India died Nov. 29, 1769, Delhi Mughal emperor of India (1754-59). He was placed on the throne by the imperial vizier Imd al-Mulk Ghz al-Dn and was always the puppet of more powerful men, including the Afghan ruler Ahmad Shah Durrn, whose agents occupied Delhi in 1757 and made Alamgr the nominal emperor of Hindustan. He was murdered by Ghzi al-Dn, who feared Alamgr might be captured and used against him in another Afghan invasion
