BSE is a disease which affects the nervous system of cattle and kills them. BSE is an abbreviation for `bovine spongiform encephalopathy'. bovine spongiform encephalopathy. bovine spongiform encephalopathy a serious brain disease that affects cows = mad cow disease (bovine spongiform encephalopathy)
Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (or mad cow disease)
a fatal disease of cattle that affects the central nervous system; causes staggering and agitation
Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (or mad cow disease) [UK Creutzfeldt- Jakob Disease Surveillance Unit, Scientific & Medical Terms, Univ of Edinburgh, UK, 1997 ] http: //www cjd ed ac uk/glos htm
Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy is a neurological disorder affecting adult cattle It is a subacute transmissible spongiform encephalopathy and is believed to be the bovine equivalent of scrapie disease in sheep, that has occurred as the result of the exposure of cattle to animal feeds containing the scrapie agent

(Basic Service Elements) In Open Network Architecture, BSEs are functions of the switched network that are available through U S WEST and competitors on like terms A BSE normally consists of an access link element, a features/functions element, or a transport and usage element that connects Enhanced Service Providers to their customers
Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), also known as Mad Cow Disease, is a chronic progressive degenerative disease affecting the central nervous system of cattle There is no treatment, and affected cattle die BSE is classified as a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE) The causative agent for BSE has not been determined Some believe it is a "slow virus" or a "virino" while others believe it is a "prion" (an aberrant form of a normal prion protein) that causes the normal protein to conform to its aberrant shape, which leads to a cascade of abnormal proteins accumulating in brain cells The accumulation of protein plaques causes cell death and leaves holes in the brain giving a "sponge-like" appearance The etiologic agent is extremely resistant to destruction BSE was first officially recognized in the United Kingdom (UK) in November 1986 The incubation period for BSE in cattle is from 2 to 8 years For more information, see

bovine spongiform encephalopathy BSE
or bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) Fatal neurodegenerative disease of cattle. Symptoms include behavioral changes (e.g., agitation), gradual loss of coordination and locomotive function, and, in advanced stages, weight loss, fine muscular contractions, and abnormal gait. Brain tissue becomes pitted with holes and spongy. Death usually follows within a year. The disease is similar to the neurodegenerative disease of sheep called scrapie. No treatment is known. A BSE epidemic in Britain that began in the mid-1980s is believed to have been caused by the use of cattle feed containing supplements made from ruminant carcasses and trimmings. Hundreds of thousands of infected cattle were slaughtered and the use of animal-derived protein supplements ended. The cause of both BSE and scrapie is attributed to an infectious aberrant protein called a prion. The unusual occurrence of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, another prion-related illness, in young people beginning in the mid-1990s may be linked to eating meat from cattle with BSE
