A direct vote by the electorate on an issue presented to it by a government
A plebiscite is a direct vote by the people of a country or region in which they say whether they agree or disagree with a particular policy, for example whether a region should become an independent state. = referendum. a system by which everyone in a country or area votes on an important decision that affects the whole country or area plebiscite on (plébiscite, from plebis scitum ). Vote by the people of an entire country or district to decide an issue. Voters are asked to accept or reject a given proposal rather than choose between alternative proposals. By means of plebiscites, intermediaries such as political parties can be bypassed.
