a transparent, flaky mineral which splits into thin sheets and has excellent insulating and heat resisting properties
{i} any of a group of minerals which easily split into thin leaves and are often transparent
A family of silicate minerals which form very thin crystals which may be flexible and have the appearance of 'cellophane'
A group of silicates which can be cleaved perfectly to produce thin, tough shining plates which were used before glass became generally and cheaply available Glass is sometimes treated to imitate the look of mica GANTAD
Mica is a hard mineral which is found as small flat crystals in rocks. It has a great resistance to heat and electricity. Any of a group of hydrous potassium, aluminum silicate minerals that exhibit a two-dimensional sheet, or layer, structure. A very abundant variety of mica is muscovite; two other common varieties are biotite and phlogopite. Micas have various industrial uses. The varieties that contain little iron are used as thermal or electrical insulators in appliances and in such electrical devices as capacitors. In ground form, micas are used in the manufacture of wallpaper, roofing paper, and paint. Ground micas also serve as lubricants, absorbents, and packing material. black mica potash mica common mica
being popularly called isinglass
A layer-structured aluminosilicate mineral group of the 2: 1 type that is characterized by its non expandability and high layer charge, which is usually satisfied by potassium The major types are muscovite, biotite, and phlogopite See also Appendix I, Table A3
The name of a group of minerals characterized by highly perfect cleavage, so that they readily separate into very thin leaves, more or less elastic
Mentally Ill Chemical Abuser MICA refers to programs for those who are dually diagnosed
Formerly called also cat-silver, and glimmer
- Is a mineral used as an electrical insulator in some neon electrodes It is usually a semi clear very thin rectangular sheet
any of various minerals consisting of hydrous silicates of aluminum or potassium etc that crystallize in forms that allow perfect cleavage into very thin leaves; used as dielectrics because of their resistance to electricity
The colorless to jet black mineral having flat, thin scales, found in some granites and schists
The transparent forms are used in lanterns, the doors of stoves, etc
A mineral consisting of shiny, transparent, platelike chemical crystals
Mineral used as an insulator between commentator segments
The Matchbox International Collectors Association founded in 1985
A silicate which separates into layers and has high insulation resistance, dielectric strength, and heat resistance It is used as an insulation wrap in wires and cables to a limited degree while radiation resistance requirements are severe and for high temperature work demanding good heat resistance
They differ widely in composition, and vary in color from pale brown or yellow to green or black
A mineral that forms layers of thin sheets and is colorless to black Often found in igneous and metamorphic rocks Native Americans used tone tools to cut sheets of mica into a variety of forms such as a human hand and the silhouette of a bird claw
Called 'Glimers' in the historic record A hand-made transparent glass marble, can be made from cane or hand-gathered, hand-made The glass holds small flakes of mica inside the marble that sparkle, or glimmer in the light The more mica in the marble the greater the value
any of various minerals consisting of hydrous silicates of aluminum or potassium etc
Any of various colored or transparent mineral silicates crystallizing in monoclinic forms that readily separate into very thin sheets

A naturally occurring mineral, based on silica, which after treatment, is used as an effect pigment in coatings Their special property is that light falling on a mica particle, depending on the angle of illumination, reflects the light with a change in colour Because of this they are sometimes referred to as pearls Alternate Term(s): Pearl
