an extremely large ancient statue of the god Apollo on the Greek island of Rhodes. It was built to guard the entrance to the harbour, and was one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It was destroyed by an earthquake in 224 B.C. Enormous bronze statue of the sun god Helios that towered more than 100 ft (30 m) over the harbour at the city of Rhodes in Greece.
