() The term was originally coined by literary scholar and author Steven Marcus in his book The Other Victorians: a Study of Sexuality and Pornography in Mid-Nineteenth-Century England (1966) to describe the setting in Victorian pornography. The term is now used in many pornographic books, articles, websites, comics and videos.
