Any small molecule that can elicit an immune response only when attached to a large carrier such as a protein
A hapten is a small molecule which can elicit an immune response only when attached to a large carrier such as a protein; the carrier may be one which also does not elicit an immune response by itself. Once the body has generated antibodies to a hapten-carrier adduct, the small-molecule hapten may also be able to bind to the antibody, but it will usually not initiate an immune response; usually only the hapten-carrier adduct can do this. Sometimes the small-molecule hapten can even block immune response to the hapten-carrier adduct by preventing the adduct from binding to the antibody
a small molecule (peptide), not antigenic by itself, that can be bound to by antibodies It can be made antigenic and elicit such antibodies when joined to a foreign molecule (carrier)
A small molecule that is not immunogenic unless attached to a carrier protein
A molecule that will not itself provoke antibody production because it's too small and insignificant, but when coupled/attached to a larger molecule (BSA for example), it acts as the antigenic determinant 1
low molecular weight substance, capable to generate unique three-dimensional complexes with biopolymeric carriers and provoke specific immune response, having no its own continuos antigenic determinants
{i} type of antigen
A substance not inducing antibody formation but able to combine with a specific antibody
A substance that can react selectively with antibodies of the appropriate specificity but that stimulates the prodn of these antibodies in an animal only when it is coupled to a carrier
