A strait connecting the Gulf of Oman to the Persian Gulf
formerly Strait of Ormuz Channel linking the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. It is 35-60 mi (55-95 km) wide and separates Iran from the Arabian Peninsula.
