making fertile as by applying fertilizer or manure creation by the physical union of male and female gametes; of sperm and ova in an animal or pollen and ovule in a plant
1 In floral biology, the union of male and female gametes to produce a fertilized egg cell 2 In agriculture, the practice of adding nutrients to soil or plants for use by plants
Reproductive process in which a male sex cell (sperm) unites with a female sex cell (egg). During the process, the chromosomes of the egg and sperm will merge to form a zygote, which will divide to form an embryo. In humans, sperm travel from the vagina through the uterus to a fallopian tube, where they surround an egg released from an ovary usually two or three days earlier. Once one sperm has fused with the egg cell membrane, the outer layer becomes impenetrable to other sperm. See also cross-fertilization, self-fertilization. cross fertilization in vitro fertilization self fertilization

The moment at which sperm penetrates an egg and a baby begins to grow
The union of male and female cells (e g sperm and egg) to form a new individual
the process in which the female gamete and the male gamete unite to begin the reproductive process
fertilization membrane
the membrane that forms around a fertilized ovum and prevents penetration by additional spermatozoon
cross-fertilization
The mutual exchange of ideas or concepts from different fields for mutual benefit
cross-fertilization
Fertilization by the union of gametes of different plants (sometimes of different species)
in vitro fertilization
The fertilization of an egg by sperm outside of a woman's body; normally used as a treatment for infertility
self-fertilization
The fertilization of a plant by itself; self-pollination
cross-fertilization
(Biyoloji) The fusion of male and female gametes (sex cells) from different individuals of the same species
artificial fertilization
{i} in vitro fertilization
cross fertilization
{i} hybridization, crossing of two animals or plants from different breeds or species; allogamy (Botany)
cross-fertilization
Fusion of male and female sex cells from different individuals of the same species. Cross-fertilization is necessary in animal and plant species that have male and female organs on separate individuals. Methods of cross-fertilization are diverse in animals. Among most species that breed in water, the males and females shed their sex cells into the water, where fertilization takes place outside the body. Among land breeders, fertilization is internal, with the sperm being introduced into the body of the female. By recombining genetic material from two parents, cross-fertilization maintains a greater range of variability for natural selection to act on, thereby increasing the capacity of a species to adapt to environmental change. See also self-fertilization
cross-fertilization
fertilization by the union of male and female gametes from different individual of the same species
cross-fertilization
interchange between different cultures or different ways of thinking that is mutually productive and beneficial; "the cross-fertilization of science and the creative arts"
double fertilization
The union in flowering plants of two sperm nuclei. One sperm nucleus unites with the egg to form the diploid zygote, from which the embryo develops, and the other unites with two polar nuclei to form the triploid, primary endosperm nucleus
fertilisation
{i} impregnation, insemination; act of enriching the soil by the addition of organic or chemical substances (also fertilization)
fertilisation
fusion of the male and female gametes
fertilisation
Sexual fusion of male and female elements initialising seed production
fertilisation

fertilisation
alternative spelling of fertilization
fertilisation
A term used to denote increased plant growth due to higher carbon dioxide concentrations, warmer temperatures or increased dispersion of nitrogen–based fertiliser
fertilisation
creation by the physical union of male and female gametes; of sperm and ova in an animal or pollen and ovule in a plant
in vitro fertilization
a process in which a human egg is fertilized outside a woman's body (in vitro ). or test-tube conception Procedure, used to overcome infertility, in which eggs are removed from a woman, fertilized with sperm outside the body, and inserted into the uterus of the same or another woman. The first child thus conceived was born in 1978. IVF includes extraction of eggs, collection of sperm, fertilization in culture, and introduction into the uterus at the eight-cell stage. In a successful procedure, the embryo is implanted in the uterine wall, and pregnancy begins. The most common problem is failed implantation. IVF has been a source of moral, ethical, and religious controversy since its development
in vitro fertilization
{i} IVF, fertilization of an egg outside of the body (i.e. test tube, petri dish)
self-fertilization
act or process of fertilizing itself, independent fertilization
self-fertilization
Fusion of male and female sex cells (gametes) produced by the same individual. This type of fertilization occurs in bisexual organisms, including most flowering plants, numerous protozoans, and many invertebrates. Many organisms capable of self-fertilization can also reproduce by means of cross-fertilization. As an evolutionary mechanism, self-fertilization allows an isolated individual to create a local population and stabilizes desirable genetic strains, but it fails to provide a significant degree of variability within a population and thereby limits the possibilities for adaptation to environmental change
self-fertilization
fertilization by the union of male and female gametes from the same individual
