(Tarih) The Hyksos (Egyptian heqa khasewet, "foreign rulers"; Greek , , Arabic: , ) were an Asiatic people who invaded the eastern Nile Delta, initiating the Second Intermediate Period of Ancient Egypt. They rose to power in the 17th century BC, (according to the traditional chronology) and ruled Lower and Middle Egypt for 108 years, forming the Fifteenth and possibly the Sixteenth Dynasties of Egypt, (c. 1648–1540 BC). This 108-year period follows the Turin Canon, which gives the six kings of the Hyksos 15th Dynasty a total reign length of 108 years

The Hyksos introduced the horse and chariot, the compound bow, improved battle-axes, and advanced fortification techniques. Hyksos pharaohs tried to halt the spread of a Theban revolt, but their dynasty fell to Ahmose in 1521 BC

Derived from Egyptian for "rulers of foreign countries," these Semitic rulers of Egypt from 1750-1550 B C E were probably the people in control of Egypt during the sojourn of Joseph and Jacob's descendants See Chapter 3

A dynasty of Egyptian kings, often called the Shepherd kings, of foreign origin, who, according to the narrative of Manetho, ruled for about 500 years, forming the XVth and XVIth dynasties
The Hega-khase, an asiatic people, founded a kingdom in Northern Egypt, 15th and 16th dynasties

from the Egyptian for "rulers of foreign lands " These Asiatic people slowly moved into the Delta in the Middle Kingdom, rising in prominence until they eventually ruled Egypt as the 15 dynasty in the 17th century BC, during what we call the Second Intermediate Period
