A crime considered particularly heinous for having been motivated by hate for a race, gender, religion, etc. which can result in harsher punishments by statute, crime that is committed because of racial or religious hatred, A hate crime is a crime, especially against people such as homosexuals and members of ethnic minorities, that is motivated by feelings of hatred. Several other Western countries, including Australia, Britain, and Canada, have adopted laws designed to curb violent crime against racial and religious minorities.
